Baktrische Kamele stammen aus dem heutigen Afghanistan. Sie wurden in China vor allem für den Warentransport über die Seidenstraße und für Jagdausflüge des Hochadels genutzt. Nachgebildet in Ton gehörten solche Kamele zu den häufigsten Grabbeigaben der Tang-Dynastie. Sie waren ein Zeichen für Reichtum und Wohlstand des Verstorbenen.
