Description

Schwarzweißfotografie. Die Aufnahme zeigt Arbeiter der Firma Carl Giess Söhne in Bendorf Süd beim Bimsabbau. Die Arbeiter schaufeln den Bimssand in Handkarren. Die Bimswand besteht aus einer mindestens 1 m starken oberen Schicht mit gröberem Material, einer Unterschicht mit feinerem Bims und der dazwischenliegenden Trennschicht (ca. 10 cm), der sog. Britzbank. Letztere verarbeitete man vor der Erfindung des Schwemmsteins zum Ausfachen von Fachwerkhäusern.
