Der Ringer Markus Scherer war für den VfK Schifferstadt startend 11-facher Deutscher Einzelmeister, 3-mal Deutscher Mannschaftsmeister, Europameister 1989, Weltpokalsieger 1987 und Vizeweltmeister 1983. Die Ringerschuhe stammen aus dem Jahr 1984; in diesen Schuhen gewann das "quirlige Kraftpaket" bei den Olympischen Spielen in Los Angeles die Silbermedaille.
